Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of large croissants (or homemade if preferred)
- 1 cup of dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup of whole milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
- Fresh berries or whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish and arrange sliced croissants inside. Sprinkle most of the chocolate chips over the croissants, reserving a few for topping.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined. Pour evenly over the croissants and chocolate. Let soak for 10 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, until golden and the custard is set. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top in the last 5 minutes.
- Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar. Serve with fresh berries or whipped cream if desired. Enjoy this luxurious breakfast or brunch treat!
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a tablespoon of bourbon or coffee extract to the custard.
- Use high-quality chocolate for best richness.
- If preparing ahead, refrigerate after assembling and bake just before serving.
- Can be made with gluten-free croissants for dietary restrictions.
