- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices rye bread
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pickles for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Form ground beef into 4 equal patties, season with salt and pepper.
- In the same skillet, cook beef patties over medium heat until cooked through, about 4 minutes per side.
- Place cooked patties on a plate. Spread butter on one side of each bread slice and toast in the skillet until golden brown.
- Assemble each sandwich with a beef patty, a slice of cheese, caramelized onions, and the toasted bread slices.
- Press and cook the assembled sandwiches in the skillet until cheese melts and bread is crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Serve hot with pickles if desired.
