Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup wild blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Warm the milk to about 110°F (43°C). Add the yeast and a teaspoon of sugar, stir gently, and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together remaining sugar and flour. Create a well in the center.
- Pour in the yeast mixture, melted butter, ricotta, egg, and vanilla. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Gently fold in blueberries without breaking them.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions, shape into balls, and place on a lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place for 40-50 minutes until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove and let cool slightly before serving. Optional dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
- Use high-quality wild blueberries for better flavor.
- Adjust flour and liquids to prevent dough from being too sticky or dry.
- Brush tops with melted butter before baking for extra richness.
- Add honey or cinnamon for additional sweetness.
