Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 4 large potatoes, sliced thinly
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Wash and slice the potatoes into thin rounds; chop the onion and mince the garlic.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and thyme, cooking until browned. Remove excess fat and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In the same skillet, add another tbsp olive oil and sauté onions and garlic until translucent.
- Layer sliced potatoes on the bottom of the skillet or an oven-proof dish. Spread half of the cooked beef over the potatoes, sprinkle with cheese, then repeat with remaining ingredients. Pour diced tomatoes evenly on top.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
- Use sliced peppers, mushrooms, or hot sauce for extra flavor variations.
- Ensure potatoes are sliced thin for even cooking.
- You can prepare and refrigerate the assembled dish a few hours before baking.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with plant-based grounds or mushrooms and use dairy-free cheese.
