Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Peel and slice the apples into thin pieces. Toss with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice; set aside.
- Combine flour, brown sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan to form a crust.
- Spread apple mixture evenly over the crust.
- Mix oats with a little brown sugar and salt; sprinkle over apples to create a crunchy topping.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and bubbling. Cool slightly before cutting.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Fuji for best flavor.
- Keep ingredients cold for a flaky crust.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- For added flavor, sprinkle with nuts, caramel, or cinnamon before baking.
