  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 12 bars

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the apples into thin pieces. Toss with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice; set aside.
  2. Combine flour, brown sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan to form a crust.
  3. Spread apple mixture evenly over the crust.
  4. Mix oats with a little brown sugar and salt; sprinkle over apples to create a crunchy topping.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and bubbling. Cool slightly before cutting.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Fuji for best flavor.
  • Keep ingredients cold for a flaky crust.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • For added flavor, sprinkle with nuts, caramel, or cinnamon before baking.
