A soft, flaky bun swirled with luscious cheese filling and sweet currant jam, baked to perfection and topped with a glaze for a glossy finish.

  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 12 buns

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup currant jam
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Glaze (powdered sugar mixed with a little milk)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add remaining sugar, eggs, melted butter, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, kneading until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled.
  4. Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  5. Spread cream cheese evenly over the dough, then dollop currant jam over the top.
  6. Roll the dough tightly into a log, then cut into 12 equal slices.
  7. Place the slices into a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the buns with egg wash.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Drizzle with glaze before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure yeast is activated properly for a good rise.
  • You can substitute currant jam with raspberry or blackberry jam.
  • For a richer flavor, brush buns with melted butter after baking.
