Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup currant jam
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Glaze (powdered sugar mixed with a little milk)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add remaining sugar, eggs, melted butter, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour, kneading until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled.
- Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread cream cheese evenly over the dough, then dollop currant jam over the top.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log, then cut into 12 equal slices.
- Place the slices into a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the buns with egg wash.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Drizzle with glaze before serving.
Notes
- Ensure yeast is activated properly for a good rise.
- You can substitute currant jam with raspberry or blackberry jam.
- For a richer flavor, brush buns with melted butter after baking.
