Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large apples (Fuji or Honeycrisp work best)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional for extra texture)
- Cooking spray or olive oil spray
Instructions
- Start by washing and peeling the apples. Cut each apple into even-sized sticks, approximately 3-4 inches long and about 1/2 inch thick. Removing the core is optional but helps with presentation and texture.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, half of the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In another bowl, whisk the eggs until well combined. In a third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and remaining sugar. For a tropical twist, add shredded coconut to the breadcrumb mixture.
- Dip each apple stick into the flour mixture, ensuring an even coat. Then, dip into the egg wash, followed by the breadcrumb mixture. Place the coated apple sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Preheat your Ninja Air Fryer to 375°F (190°C). Spray the apple sticks lightly with cooking spray. Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, not overcrowding. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, shaking the basket halfway through.
Notes
- Use firm apples like Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Gala for the best result.
- Add a pinch of salt to the breadcrumb mixture for extra flavor.
- For vegan options, substitute eggs with a flax egg or water-cornstarch mixture.
