Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 4-5 tablespoons ice water
  • 5 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add ice water gradually, mixing until dough forms. Divide into two disks, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one disk on a floured surface and fit into a pie pan.
  4. In a bowl, mix sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour filling into prepared crust.
  5. Roll out second disk and cover the filling. Trim edges and make a few slits on top for steam escape.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Cool before serving.
