A hearty and savory pizza inspired by classic French onion soup, topped with caramelized onions and melted cheese on a crispy crust.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made pizza crust
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon thyme leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 30 minutes.
  3. Spread caramelized onions evenly over the pizza crust.
  4. Sprinkle with shredded Gruyere, Parmesan, and thyme.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  6. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, then slice and serve hot.

Notes

  • Feel free to add a splash of balsamic vinegar during caramelization for extra flavor.
  • For a crispier crust, pre-bake the crust for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
