Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cups frozen tater tots
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken for variety)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped green onions or bacon bits for garnish
Instructions
- Start by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef or turkey and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add diced onions and cook until translucent. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream, creating a creamy filling. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the meat mixture evenly in a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots evenly across the surface of the casserole. Lightly spray with cooking spray if desired.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Garnish with green onions or bacon bits if using. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- For an even crispier topping, broil for 2-3 minutes at the end—watch closely.
- Use homemade or store-bought cream of mushroom soup based on your preference.
- Pre-cooking the meat enhances flavor and moisture.
- Substitute mashed cauliflower or low-fat ingredients for healthier options.
