  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the potatoes into thin, uniform rounds. Chop the onion and mince the garlic. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Add chopped onion and garlic, cooking until translucent. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika if desired.
  3. Mix milk and butter in a small bowl, season with salt and pepper to create a creamy mixture.
  4. Spread a layer of beef mixture in a baking dish, add a layer of sliced potatoes, then repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with potatoes on top.
  5. Pour the milk and butter mixture evenly over the casserole. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  6. Remove the foil and broil for 3-5 minutes to brown the cheese. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use uniform potato slices for even cooking.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes after baking to help it set.
  • Add hot sauce or spices for extra flavor.
