Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- ½ cup warm milk
- ½ cup bourbon whiskey
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 6-8 slices of bacon, cooked crispy and chopped
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the glaze: ½ cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons bourbon or milk
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, a teaspoon of sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add remaining sugar, melted butter, bourbon whiskey, egg, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Whisk until smooth.
- Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, cook the bacon slices until crispy. Once cooled, chop into small pieces.
- In a small bowl, mix softened butter, cinnamon, and a splash of maple syrup to create the cinnamon filling.
- Set aside the chopped bacon and cinnamon mixture.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- After the dough has doubled, punch it down and roll into a 16×12 inch rectangle.
- Spread the cinnamon butter mixture evenly, then sprinkle with chopped bacon and drizzle with maple syrup.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side, then cut into 12 slices.
- Arrange the slices in the baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Meanwhile, mix powdered sugar with bourbon or milk for glaze.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
Notes
- Ensure yeast is fresh for optimal rising.
- Use high-quality maple syrup and crispy bacon for best flavor.
- Avoid overfilling to prevent spilling during baking.
- Adjust sweetness of the glaze as preferred.
- Monitor baking time to prevent overbaking which can dry out the rolls.
