  • Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes
  • Yield: 12 rolls

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • ½ cup bourbon whiskey
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6-8 slices of bacon, cooked crispy and chopped
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the glaze: ½ cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons bourbon or milk

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, a teaspoon of sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add remaining sugar, melted butter, bourbon whiskey, egg, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, cook the bacon slices until crispy. Once cooled, chop into small pieces.
  6. In a small bowl, mix softened butter, cinnamon, and a splash of maple syrup to create the cinnamon filling.
  7. Set aside the chopped bacon and cinnamon mixture.
  8. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  9. After the dough has doubled, punch it down and roll into a 16×12 inch rectangle.
  10. Spread the cinnamon butter mixture evenly, then sprinkle with chopped bacon and drizzle with maple syrup.
  11. Roll the dough tightly from the long side, then cut into 12 slices.
  12. Arrange the slices in the baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  13. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Meanwhile, mix powdered sugar with bourbon or milk for glaze.
  14. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure yeast is fresh for optimal rising.
  • Use high-quality maple syrup and crispy bacon for best flavor.
  • Avoid overfilling to prevent spilling during baking.
  • Adjust sweetness of the glaze as preferred.
  • Monitor baking time to prevent overbaking which can dry out the rolls.
